Alscot welcomed more than 100 runners for its first-ever Tempo 5K, with participants taking on the challenging course in soaring summer temperatures of 34 degrees.
Despite the heat, 106 runners completed the race, cheered on by enthusiastic supporters from neighbouring villages who lined the route, many armed with hosepipes to help runners cool down as they tackled the infamous climb up Atherstone Hill.
The event marked an exciting new chapter for Alscot, which not only hosted the race in partnership with Tempo Events but also entered its own team of runners to support Friends of Stratford Hospital. Through Emma Holman-West’s fundraising campaign and the generosity of supporters, Team Alscot has now raised more than £10,000 for the charity.
Friends of Stratford Hospital has supported the local hospital since the birth of the NHS in 1948. The charity funds equipment, facilities and services beyond those provided through NHS budgets, benefiting thousands of patients and their families across the local community each year.
The event also introduced a new audience to both Alscot and the charity, with runners of all ages taking part and many younger participants embracing the challenge. The lively atmosphere throughout the evening demonstrated how modern fundraising events can inspire new supporters while bringing communities together.
Emma Holman-West, owner of Alscot and Patron of Friends of Stratford Hospital, said:
“Friends of Stratford Hospital is a remarkable local charity that has quietly supported our hospital for generations, touching the lives of almost everyone in our community at some point. As its new Patron, I’m passionate about raising the charity’s profile so more people understand the vital role it plays and the difference it makes. Events like the Tempo 5K are a wonderful way of introducing the charity to new audiences, particularly younger people, while creating a real sense of community and achievement.
“I couldn’t be prouder of everyone who took part. The conditions were incredibly challenging, yet every runner showed tremendous determination. I’d also like to thank everyone who came out to support them, and the entire Alscot team who worked alongside Tempo Events to bring this fantastic event to life. For a first event of its kind at Alscot, the atmosphere was exceptional, and to have raised more than £10,000 for Friends of Stratford Hospital makes it even more special.”
Alscot has confirmed it will continue supporting Friends of Stratford Hospital through future fundraising initiatives as the charity seeks to build on its long history of supporting healthcare in Stratford-upon-Avon.
