New Additions to the Herd

Our journey with pedigree Longhorns began in September 2025, when we welcomed our first five cows from Leighton Longhorns, nestled in the beautiful Shropshire countryside where their cattle thrive in truly stunning natural surroundings.

Of our first five, one a heifer calf, and the remaining four heifers were in calf, and those four cattle calved recently. Sadly, we lost the first calf, but the other three are doing well. With grazing available on home farm and BNG land and two bull calves and only one heifer among them, and with ambitions to continue growing the herd, we found ourselves heading back up the M6 on a road trip into the rolling hills of Shropshire, returning to Archie’s.

Archie Corrie has been breeding Longhorn cattle since the age of 14. Now, more than twice that age and with his own farm and hundreds of cattle, his passion and dedication to the breed is inspiring to see.

It’s such a privilege to have the opportunity to see his cattle roaming in their natural environment, getting close and watching how they interact, move and carry themselves within the herd, and being able to hand select our new additions.

This time, we came home with another eight pedigree Longhorns to join our growing herd at Alscot. With some of Archie’s very best breeding, we’re now looking forward to welcoming three new Bulling Heifers - Yam, Yadira and Yoyo, Yearling Heifer - Zippo, and the first calved cows with heifer calves at foot -Xiomara & Apple andXayah & Athena.

Looking after the herd day to day is a real team effort. Emma oversees the cattle and their breeding programme, ensuring the herd continues to grow in a calm and natural way, while Stuart, who is hands-on, brings a lifetime of practical livestock experience and a genuine passion for the countryside. Together, they spend countless hours checking the cattle and monitoring the calves.

Our organic cattle are truly thriving here at Alscot, and are completely at home in their beautiful surroundings of the lush parkland. Their chosen spot is a wooded area, where they are nestling under the shady canopy of the trees in the dense ground flora and fauna, heifers and calves bonding and getting to know each other.

We’re learning as we go, excited for what the future holds as the herd continues to grow
