Thursday 2nd October marked an exciting step forward as we welcomed our new herd of longhorn cattle. Delivered personally by their Shropshire breeder, the cattle arrived in excellent condition and were unloaded with ease.
True to their reputation for good temperament, the longhorns stepped calmly down the ramp and made their way into their new field without hesitation. Moving together as a group, they wandered off steadily to explore their new surroundings.
Four of the cows are currently in calf, making their arrival all the more special as we look forward to the next generation being born here at Alscot.
Their arrival represents not only an investment in the future of our organic farm but also our commitment to maintaining traditional, native breeds that are well-suited to both the land and to sustainable farming practices.
We look forward to watching them thrive in their new home, welcoming their calves in the spring, and becoming an integral part of our farming story.
