The tree planting season is well under way at Alscot, albeit a little later than usual due to the exceptionally dry autumn. In January we took delivery of over 3,000 new trees including established English Oak and Beech, plus mixed species hedging and shrubs for various locations.
In 2022 we carried out essential work in an area adjacent to the main road (A3400), clearing blocked ditches to assist with flood mitigation and removing trees close to the road that had been identified as diseased and potentially dangerous. The trees, hedging and shrubs lost in the process are now being replaced, along with many more in addition. The variation in the age, size and species of the trees will assist in a speedy recovery of the landscape. We are careful to choose species that are suitable for the site conditions and those that encourage biodiversity by providing food and shelter for wildlife, these include; hawthorn, field maple and blackthorn. We also make every effort to buy UK grown trees which assists in reducing pollution levels and helps to prevent the spread of dangerous diseases from country to country.
